QUESTION FROM Mike
What is the best way to build up the bottom of my gutter to give it pitch? By design, these gutters are on a Frank Lloyd Wright-style house, so the architect would not sacrifice the level lines of the house by giving the gutters a pitch. Surprise! water doesn't drain well, and the seams are failing. I need to fix 2 sections' For example, one is 30 ' from the farthest end to the downspout, so I need my high end to be built up over 3 1'2"(1/8" per ft.pitch). I'm thinking something liquid that will harden is my best option for a seamless fix. but resin seems like something that would be hard to control, so, I need some other ideas.
ANSWER FROM HOME-WIZARD
Actually, a number of experts suggest that if your gutters are in good shape (that is, do not have places where they sag), that you can pitch them at 1/16 inch per foot. And some suggest that your gutters will still drain if they are level (see this webpage: http://www.ehow.com/how_115849_fix-sagging-gutter.html ). But again, the assumption is that the gutters are in good shape.
You mentioned that your seams are failing, but are the gutters sagging in many places?
And also, are these wooden gutters or aluminum?
